Initiatives We Support

Kyrgyzstan as a winter tourism destination is a shockingly new notion to most Westerners. We're excited to support and work together with these local initiatives to change that.

Jalpak Tash Location

Nestled in the foothills of the massive Terskey Alatoo range, the Jalpak Tash Yurt provides backdoor access to stunning alpine terrain, and offers what are hands-down some of the best views in Kyrgyzstan. Touring from the village to the yurt takes anywhere from 2-3 hours, depending on conditions, the group’s level of fitness, and the number of times we stop along the way to visit with villagers. The skintrack, about 6km (4mi) in length, ascends gently and consistently from 1,800m to 2,650m (5,900ft to 8,700ft) along a well-established horse trail that is utilized year-round by locals. Participants can choose to travel on horseback depending on the time of year, as the snow depth in mid-to-late winter can make it too exhausting for the horses. For those who prefer to tour but would rather not shoulder a full load, porters and/or horses can be hired.
